Community Support
In gratitude for the community's support following last year's chapel attack in Grand Blanc, Michigan, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered a second semitruck load of food to the local food bank, FISH, on September 24, 2026. Each delivery included 40,000 pounds of food and household goods to assist those in need. FISH Director Barb Smith expressed her gratitude, stating the community feels very blessed by the Church's contributions. On September 28, marking the one-year anniversary of the tragedy, the Church will break ground on a new chapel at the same location. Local leader Marcelino Sánchez emphasized the community's kindness and the hope for healing and rebuilding through faith in Christ. Attendance at the groundbreaking will be limited to invited guests, but a live broadcast will be available for all to watch.
Young Adult Devotional
Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will speak to young adults during a Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults. The broadcast will be available on November 1, 2026, in the Americas and on November 8 in other areas. Young adults, including married individuals and high school seniors, are encouraged to gather with friends to view the broadcasts and discuss the teachings shared. In North and South America, the live broadcast will take place at 6 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on November 1. For those outside the Americas, the rebroadcast will occur in the afternoon and evening on November 8. The devotional will also be available for on-demand viewing on YouTube and the Church's website for two weeks following the event.
2027 Church Events
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced its 2027 calendar, detailing important Churchwide broadcasts and events designed to strengthen faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. This calendar includes a variety of meetings, activities, and resources available throughout the year, starting with the New Testament study and fast-Sunday lessons in January. Key highlights include worldwide devotionals for young adults, a Family Discovery Day, General Conference sessions, and the Salt Lake Temple Celebration. Members are encouraged to participate in these events and utilize the provided resources to enhance their spiritual growth and community engagement.
Faith and Devotion
During a recent BYU devotional, Elder Alexander Dushku, a General Authority Seventy, urged students to "Choose Christ" above all else. He emphasized the importance of making a definitive choice in faith, likening it to crossing the Rubicon, a point of no return. Elder Dushku explained that this choice involves understanding who Jesus Christ truly is and accepting Him as a personal Savior, rather than a mere figure of kindness. Elder Dushku highlighted that choosing Christ is not just about following rules but about a loving relationship with Him. He encouraged students to rise above worldly distractions and temptations, reminding them that true fulfillment comes from embracing Christ's teachings and love. Now is the time, he declared, to commit fully to the Savior and the path of the Restoration.
Service and Compassion
During a recent devotional at the Utah Valley Institute of Religion, Sister Kristin M. Yee, Second Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, inspired students to change the world through their faith in Jesus Christ. She emphasized the importance of their baptismal and temple covenants, stating that they have the power to help others feel the Savior’s love and provide both temporal and spiritual relief. Sister Yee highlighted the Church’s initiatives for caring for women and children globally, as well as the significance of tithing and fast offerings. Following her remarks, students participated in a service project, packing 1,000 hygiene kits for victims of domestic violence, demonstrating the impact of coming together to serve those in need. She encouraged them to recognize the difference they can make in their communities and beyond.
Family History Celebration
RootsTech 2027 is set to take place from March 4–6, 2027, both online and in person in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hosted by FamilySearch International, this event invites individuals of all ages to celebrate family connections, discover their heritage, and learn how to preserve and share family stories. The theme for this year is "Celebrate!" which highlights the importance of family history as a living celebration connecting generations. Attendees can look forward to hundreds of classes and interactive experiences tailored for both beginners and seasoned family history enthusiasts. The event will also include an expo hall and expert-led sessions on the latest innovations in genealogy. Young Adults Conference
Young single adults gathered in New York City from September 18–20, 2026, for the third annual Cities of Light conference, themed "Anchored in Christ." Participants engaged in activities aimed at strengthening their faith and building connections, culminating in a devotional at the David H. Koch Theater where Elder Ulisses Soares emphasized the importance of being bearers of Christ's light. The weekend featured workshops, an interfaith panel, and a gala, all designed to help attendees deepen their commitment to the Savior and serve their communities. Elder Soares encouraged the young adults to use their faith and talents to bring hope and direction to those around them, highlighting the significant impact they can have in a changing world.
